Thiago Pereira

Thiago Pereira Machado Vilela is one of the biggest names of today's Brazilian swimming. His versatility impresses athletes, technicians and fans of the sport. According to the press and with experienced athletes such as Olympic medalist Gustavo Borges, Thiago was a great hope for medal in the Olympics in Beijing.
The victorious career began at age 12, with the achievement of a bronze medal in a competition in the city of Volta Redonda (RJ). At the same time, he also had his first victory in federal championships in a competition in Valencia, a region of Volta Redonda.
From there, the course was fulminating. After many achievements between 13 and 16 years, Thiago received the proposal to incorporate the Minas Tennis Club team at the end of 2001. Leaving the Club of Staff, in Volta Redonda, was not easy, and the move to the capital. The excellent infrastructure of the new club, however, and contact with some of the best swimmers in the country weighed in the decision.
The move helped to consolidate Thiago among the world's leading swimmers, with many international achievements and to break the world record in the 200m medley at the World Cup of Pool Short in 2007.
The consecration came in the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he won six gold medals, one silver and one bronze, becoming the biggest winner in an edition of the pan, and he raised his status of candidate for victory in the Beijing Olympic Games.
